Man Pulled From Burning Maryland Home Dies Weeks Later, Fire Officials Say

Officials have confirmed that a Gaithersburg man rescued from a house fire last month has died after two weeks in the hospital.

Fire crews arrived to find flames tearing through a single-story home in the unit block of Oak Avenue around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16, according to Montgomery County Fire & Rescue officials.

Firefighters searched the home and found a man inside, officials said. They pulled him from the home and rushed him to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

After two weeks in the hospital, the victim died, officials confirmed on Saturday, March 1.

More than 50 firefighters battled the blaze, extinguishing it without any reported injuries, authorities said.

Investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen when combustibles ignited.

Officials have not yet released the identity of the victim.
